Ten explosions rock India’s Srinagar Airport

Blasts near airport follow missile strikes and rising cross-border violence, raising fears of broader regional conflict.

India and Pakistan flags

Ten explosions were reported near Srinagar International Airport on Friday, Reuters reported, as tensions between India and Pakistan surged to alarming levels following days of cross-border violence.

The blasts came shortly after multiple projectiles were spotted over Jammu, another city in the Indian-administered part of Kashmir, triggering power blackouts.

The heightened tensions have stirred fears of a broader conflict between the nuclear-armed neighbors, who have exchanged drone strikes, missiles, and artillery fire along the contested Line of Control (LoC) this week.

The latest escalation began Wednesday when India launched strikes on sites inside Pakistan and in the Pakistan-administered portion of Kashmir, targeting what it described as “terrorist infrastructure.” The Indian government said the attacks were in retaliation for the killing of 26 people — mostly Indian tourists — by gunmen in Kashmir last month, an attack New Delhi blames on militants supported by Islamabad.

Pakistan has rejected the accusations, insisting it had no role in the April assault and that the sites India struck were not militant bases.

The disputed Kashmir region has been at the heart of India-Pakistan hostility since the two countries gained independence from British colonial rule in 1947. They have fought three wars — two over Kashmir — and the current flare-up has raised alarms among global powers urging both nations to pull back from the brink.

With explosions now reaching major civilian hubs like Srinagar Airport, the prospect of wider regional destabilization looms ever larger.
