A new blow to Russian oil: Ukrainian drones attack a refinery in the Ryazan region, 200 kilometers from Moscow

The local governor acknowledged that drone fragments caused “a fire,” without providing details. Kyiv’s objective is to hinder fuel supplies to Putin’s army.

Ukrainian drones attack a refinery

Ukrainian drones attacked an oil refinery in the Russian region of Ryazan, located approximately 200 kilometers southeast of Moscow, according to multiple reports from Telegram channels.

The Astra channel circulated a video of the resulting fire and cited testimony from local residents who affirmed that drones had impacted the refinery’s facilities. This information was later confirmed by the Ukrainian channel Supernova, which posted night-time images of the attack’s consequences.

The governor of Ryazan, Pavel Malkov, acknowledged on his Telegram channel that fragments from drones caused “a fire on the premises of a company,” without offering further details.

“According to preliminary data, there are no injuries, and material damages are still being assessed. Emergency services are working at the scene,” he indicated.

In its morning briefing, the Russian Ministry of Defense stated that Ryazan was the region most affected by Ukrainian drones overnight, with a total of 25 aircraft shot down.

The attack follows one of Ukraine’s largest fixed-wing drone assaults in recent weeks, which occurred the previous day when 216 aircraft were launched over Russian territory. That attack prompted authorities in the Black Sea port of Novorossiysk to declare a state of emergency after a bombardment that left at least four injured and damaged several oil facilities.

The primary objective of these Ukrainian drone and missile attacks against Russia is to strike energy infrastructure, hinder fuel supplies to the Russian army, and reduce Russia’s capacity to export crude oil and its derivatives, one of the country’s main sources of foreign currency.
