India launched airstrikes across the border into Pakistan-administered territory on Wednesday, targeting what it described as terrorist infrastructure in retaliation for a deadly militant attack in Kashmir last month.

Pakistani security officials reported that missiles struck at least three locations, killing a child and injuring two others. India confirmed it had hit nine sites in the Pakistan-administered region of Jammu and Kashmir as part of “Operation Sindoor.”

“In a precise operation, the Indian Armed Forces targeted terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, from where attacks against India were being orchestrated,” said the Indian military in a statement. The operation, it added, was “measured and non-escalatory,” avoiding any strikes on Pakistani military installations.

The strikes come in response to last month’s militant assault in Pahalgam, which killed 26 people. In a post on X, the Indian military wrote “Justice delivered” and “Jai Hind!” using the hashtag #PahalgamTerrorAttack.

Pakistan responded by activating its air defense systems and preventing any Indian aircraft from entering its airspace, according to military sources.

Meanwhile, India’s Ministry of Home Affairs ordered emergency drills across several regions on Wednesday to test civilian readiness in the event of an armed conflict. These include siren tests, blackout simulations, and evacuation procedures. The directive follows a large-scale exercise held Sunday in Firozpur, near the Pakistan border.
