The projectile was detected shortly after 4:00 a.m. local time, triggering air raid sirens in several northern cities, including Haifa and areas near the Sea of Galilee.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported on Wednesday the interception of a missile launched from Yemen toward the northern part of the country.
The projectile was detected shortly after 4:00 a.m. local time, setting off air raid alarms in multiple cities in northern Israel, including Haifa and areas near the Sea of Galilee.
The missile defense system successfully intercepted the projectile before it could cause any damage, preventing further escalation of the threat.
The attack, launched from a region controlled by the Houthis, is part of a series of offensives the group has carried out against Israel since the outbreak of the Gaza conflict in October 2023.
While the Houthis did not immediately claim responsibility for the attack, Israeli authorities indicated that it was likely carried out by the faction, which is known for its ties to Iran and its vocal support for the Palestinians.
Since the beginning of the conflict in Gaza, the Houthis have repeatedly launched missiles and drones toward Israel as part of their alignment with the Palestinian cause. In response, Israel has targeted sites in Yemen, including several Houthi installations in the capital, Sanaa, as part of its efforts to curtail the group’s aggressions.
In addition to targeting Israel, the Houthis have also been responsible for numerous attacks on international shipping, particularly in the Red Sea—one of the world’s most crucial maritime trade routes.
Their attacks on merchant vessels, including some allegedly linked to Israel, have raised alarms among nations dependent on this trade corridor. Since late 2023, the Houthis have attacked more than 100 ships, severely disrupting the flow of goods in the region.
Meanwhile, the U.S.-led international coalition has intensified efforts to halt Houthi operations, conducting near-daily airstrikes on Yemen since mid-March 2025. These airstrikes have primarily targeted the group’s military positions, including key sites in the provinces of Hodeidah, Marib, and Saada.
Although the primary goal of these attacks is to protect maritime navigation, some experts argue that they are also aimed at limiting the Houthis’ capacity to continue launching assaults on Israel.
